Song Kang-ho was born on Tuesday, January 17, 1967, in Gimhae City, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. He’s a Capricorn. His acting aspirations began in middle school. After graduating from Gimhae High School, he joined a local social theatre group – one of only five in the country at that time. He later pursued a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment at Gyeongsang National University in Jinju.

In Theatre

In 1990, Song joined the Yeonwoo Mudae theatre company in Busan. His decade-long theatre career included memorable roles in plays like “Dongseung,” “Pak Cheom-Ji,” “Gukmul Issajiman,” “Yo-jong Ban-ran,” and “Bionso,” starting with “Chui Sonsaeng.” He also worked with the Saebyeog and Chaimu theatre groups.

In Films

Despite numerous film offers, he initially declined roles until accepting the part of “Dong-suk” in the 1996 film, *The Day a Pig Fell into the Well*, at age 30. Director Lee Chang-dong, who saw him in “Bionso,” cast him as “Pan-su” in *Green Fish* (1997).

His notable film roles include pivotal parts in *No. 3* (1997), *Bad Movie* (1997), *The Quiet Family* (1998), and *Shiri* (1999). His first lead role was in the 2000 film *The Foul King* as “Dae-ho.” He achieved further acclaim through films like *Joint Security Area*, *Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance*, *Memories of Murder*, and many more iconic roles.
